What is PIP coverage and how does it work in Kentucky?

Under Kentucky law, all drivers are required to carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurance. This provides a minimum of $10,000 per person to cover medical expenses, lost wages, and related costs resulting from a car accident—regardless of who was at fault.

You do not need to go through your regular health insurance to receive treatment. You’re legally entitled to choose your own medical provider.

Note: MVA-related services are billed per UCR (usual, customary, and reasonable) fee schedules as determined by the Kentucky Workers’ Compensation Division. Current rates are up to $70.75 per 15-minute unit and include all documentation and processing time.
